Lifelong musicianship.
Greg Schwaegler has been a professional music educator since 2006, but he’s been a musician since birth. As the son of two music teachers, Greg was immersed in the world of classical music and school ensembles throughout his childhood. Perhaps it was inevitable that he would follow in his parents’ footsteps to pursue music as a career.
His musical intuition is based on an expansive range of artistic experiences, from symphony orchestras and concert bands to bluegrass, jazz, rock, marching band, and liturgical music. Greg’s genre jumping allows him to combine a multitude of influences and observations, and the versatility of his skillset as a violinist, percussionist, educator, conductor, composer and arranger is on full display in his compositions, rehearsals, and performances.
Greg holds a Bachelors of Music Education (‘06) and Masters of Music Education (‘11) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a licensed K-12 music educator in the State of Illinois and has professional memberships with NAfME, ILMEA, and ASCAP.
On the podium.
Greg has a vibrant, energized presence on the podium and students are quick to notice and respond to his passion for music. He believes in the power of music to help people practice professional habits and train their brains in analytical and artistic thought. Rehearsals with Greg are both technically methodical and artistically rich, filled with analogies and imagery that capture the imagination of every student in the room and focus the group on the work to be done. This translates to thoroughly accurate and meaningful performances for ensemble and audience alike.
Off the podium.
Much of Greg’s free time is spent making more music, but he is also an avid chess player, movie lover, and fisherman. He resides in Naperville, Illinois with his wife and four children, who are happily as entertained by Minecraft and Star Wars as he is.
