Weber, March Op. 60, No. 7

$50.00

Duration - 6’30”

Grade 3.5

C. M. von Weber was one of the first significant composers of the Romantic era. Over the course of his career, he composed numerous pieces for piano, voice, and orchestra, but he is best known for his operas including Der Freischütz, which is often regarded as the first “German” opera and crucial to the development of Romantic opera in Germany.

Weber was greatly inspired by the “Sturm and Drang” (Storm and Stress) artistic movement in the Germany during his time, and embraced many of its characteristics, such as the use of minor keys, angular themes with large leaps and unpredictable melodic contours, and pulsing rhythms and syncopation. Listen for these elements in this march, originally composed for piano four-hands and famously reimagined by the 20th century German composer, Paul Hindemith, as an homage to Weber.
